General Note:

The elements below all reflect an ideal situation for each applicant. Even so, we recognize that every person is on a unique journey to God. If any of these elements seem not to fit your situation, assume there is room for adjustments to meet your needs if it is the Lord's will. We prayerfully assess every application and have, at times, made exceptions that worked out well for all. Regardless of the outcome, be assured of our prayers!

Who Can Apply?

• Men between 18 and 29 discerning the priesthood and/or religious life.
• Women between 18 and 29 discerning religious life.
• Men or women leaving religious life or formation who require time to discern a new direction.
• Are there exceptions regarding who can apply? Yes, just reach out and let us know your situation.

The Ideal Gap Year Participant

The Ideal Gap Year Participant and Those Likely to Be Admitted Will Have the Following Characteristics:

• In good standing with and in full agreement with all the teachings of the Catholic Church
• Hard working (ready and able to energetically pursue whatever is assigned, whether indoors or outdoors)
• Self-managing (able to be given assignments and see them through to completion without supervision)
• Docile (easily adaptable to different supervisors and styles of leadership)
• Healthy (no significant health issues that inhibit hard work either inside or outside)

Participant Requirements

• A letter from your priest or spiritual director confirming good standing and recommending you for the program.
• Driver's license
• A car for personal use when necessary
• Car insurance
• Health insurance
• Personal letter (not written or aided by parents) requesting consideration for participation in gap-year answering the following questions:
  • What is your current situation in life?
  • Why are you interested in the program?
  • What do you expect to accomplish while here?
  • What are your current spiritual practices (daily, weekly, monthly)?
  • Do you have any behaviors/addictions you are seeking to overcome?
  • Do you have a spiritual director?
• A one-year commitment (negotiable based on timing of entrance into seminary or convent or other unique needs).

Cost

• $400 per month, but negotiable based on a sliding scale for low-income families or other circumstances. Exceptions are reviewed on an individual basis. Feel free to send in any questions through the email below.
