The Lord is Compassion and Love

Many believe that the God of the Old Testament is a God of wrath and the God of the New Testament is a God of mercy. Nothing could be further from the truth. The God of the Old Testament and the God of the New Testament are One. Our God has always been a God of mercy.

So true. We are studying Genesis in women's bible study and I am teaching on Abraham right now and trying to remind the ladies each session that all of salvation history is a Love story between each of us and God. God established a relationship with Abraham, each of the patriarchs, that is unique and personal yet at the same time collective. Our relationships with others is a reflection of our relationship with God. This is the "righteousness" which is the seed of faith that forms us in charity. The relationship grows through prayer. Pure love drives out fear.

“These rays of mercy will pass through you, just as they have passed through this Host, and they will go out through all the world” (Diary, 441). “Tell sinners that no one shall escape My Hand; if they run away from My Merciful Heart, they will fall into My Just Hands” (Diary, 1728).

"As far as east is from the west so far does he remove our sins." Incredibly consoling. I first started to feel connected with the Old Testament when I read Tobit. It is so rich in meaning for our times about reverence for life and the order of being, in relation to the creator. I continue to treasure the Word in the Old Testament as is revealed in the Liturgy of the Hours. Our God is generous in His love.
